John’s Testimony

As the narrative portion of John’s gospel begins, he directs our attention to an exchange between John the Baptist and a delegation sent probably from the Sanhedrin. John’s impactful ministry raised questions as to his identity and authority. John answered those questions by anchoring his calling in the eternal Word of God. And he identified his role as preparatory for the far superior Messiah, who is currently among the people and unrecognized.

We too have a calling and a commission anchored in God’s Word. We too must be able and willing to stand on that calling, and answer the questions of the world.
