Naked and Ashamed
Our sermon text this week shows us the deception of Satan and the destruction of sin as the serpent plants seeds of doubt in Eve’s mind concerning God’s Word and God’s character- Did God say and Is God good? Eve’s desire for the fruit, to be like God, is seen in her lust of the eyes, lust of he flesh, and pride of life. She ate and Adam ate too, failing his role as priest/king. This results in death corrupting the creation and robbing Adam and Eve of their original righteousness and innocence. Once naked and unashamed, enjoying the fullness of God’s creation and fellowship with God, now they are naked and afraid hiding themselves from God’s presence because of they sin.
This text is central to our understanding of redemptive history, and our own salvation in Christ. As we hear it preached, we will no doubt be drawn to consider the vastness of our own sin, but also the immeasurable nature of God's saving grace.
