The All Sufficient Christ - 4-9-23

False teachers in Colosse were binding the Christian’s consciences with ascetic practices and teaching that obedience to the ceremonial law of the Old Covenant was necessary for “true spirituality." Ultimately, their guns were aimed at the sufficiency of the person and work of Christ in the salvation of sinners. Paul reminds the Christians of the sufficiency of Christ’s work for regeneration and justification. The state of who they were without Christ, dead and uncircumcised, can only be reconciled by an act of sovereign grace. Paul thus contrasts who they were with who God has made them to be in Jesus Christ, their supreme Savior who satisfied their debt and triumphed over Satan on the cross.
